A ferry down the Bosphorus

Last time we came to Istanbul we tried to get the ferry that went all the way down the Bosphorus. Unfortunately due to a lack of understanding of Turkish we got on the wrong boat. However 4 years later it was much better sign posted and we mananged to find the correct boat. We joined the locals and went by the traditional ferry which took 1.5 hours each way. The boat went from the Galeta Bridge and Chris greatly enjoyed watching the fishermen try and catch the fish.

The sights from the ferry were very interesting and it was wierd to think that one side is Europe and the other Asia.

Typical view from ferry

Eventually the ferry arrived at Anadolu Kavağı, a small village at the end of the Bosphorus facing towards the Black Sea. From the boat we saw a castle at the top of the hill.

On arrival at the village, most people seemed to go to one of the many fish restaurants that were around the jetty calling out for trade. We started walking round and ended up walking up the massively steep hill up to the castle which proved to be quite a feat as it was quite hot and sweaty and the gradient was severe. However once we got to the top the view was stunning, one way back towards Istanbul and the other towards the enterance to the Black Sea.

Just below the castle there were some cafes where we enjoyed an Efes (Turkish Beer) still enjoying the view.

We then walked back down to the village before catching the last ferry home. On arriving back in the city there was an incredible amount of people just out for an afternoon stroll and it took a while to get back to our hotel through the people.
Just off out now to celebrate our last night in Istanbul, flying down south tommorow!.
