Flights Taken : 4 Countries Visited : 2 Hotel rooms stayed in so far : 4
We have just discovered that we have free wifi here in Agra so we are making full use of it!!. We are just relaxing in our air conditioned room for a couple of hours before we are of out again. This time we are going to realise one of my lifetimes ambitions to see the Taj Mahal!!. Can't wait.
We managed to get up for 5am and caught the train from New Delhi station to Agra. The train was fantastic, we were in 1st class air conditioned carriages. The airconditioning was so fierce that we had to put our fleeces on. We were then served tea, biscuits, a very spicy vegetable cutlet and bread and jam. It was a bit bizarre to be enjoying our breakfast in our air conditioned carriage whilst seeing the dire poverty some people were living in along the side of the railway.
On arrival at Agra we transferred to our hotel (the Grand Casa) which is basic but fine. After this it was off to the Red Fort. Here we got our first glimpse of the Taj across the river. The Fort itself was an amazing place on a very large scale. It had a bewildering amount of areas of the palace but the views towards the taj were great. We had a really good guide there who told us lots of stories about when the palace was in use before the “Britishers” came and apparently moved in. The gold and preious stones that were once there must have made the whole place really light up.
