Hotel rooms stayed in since 1st Sept : 33
Favourite aussie road sign seen on freeway "Drink and Drive - BLOODY IDIOT"
We spend a lovely day in Port Fairy just walking round and chilling out. We were suprised at just how quiet it was with not that many tourists. We walked round the old whaling island of "Griffiths Island" which was about 4km and was totally deserted but had a nice walking track for the tourist. The town itself is scenic with alot of original fishermens cottages still preserved. It has a single street with all the shops in it. It sort of reminded us of home (Hadleigh) however the parking situation was so much better in Port Fairy. Loads of free places to park along the high street (even right out side the food shop - unheard of in Hadleigh!!).
Chris got chatting to the motel owner and asked where the best place to spot kangaroo's would be. She thought this was quite amusing and promised our money back if we did not see any in the evening. She certainly was not wrong, on the field behind there were hundreds of them grazing along with deer (not indigenous). We also saw an emu crossing the road as we were driving along with 5 babies following. Apologies to our Aussie friends who we know are reading (hi Matt!) but yet again like the koalas we did find the kangaroos to be very cute. It really was quite wierd to see a heard of kangaroos jumping towards us (and also quite funny!).

We then spent the afternoon on the deserted beach. The temperature was hot (about 25) but there was a brisk wind coming in of the sea that cooled things down. Once again we were not tempted to actually swim in the sea as it was freezing!

The next morning we headed of inland to the Grampions National Park to the small village of Halls Gap. Our trusty Sat Nav (who we have christened 'Edna' hopefully you will understand why) very helpfully directed us straight to the new motel. On arrival we walked round the village and had an icecream. The temperature is much hotter here inland (about 28).
As it was so hot, Chris could not resist a dip in the motels tiny pool which he reported as also being freezing (like the sea). He failed to notice the black clouds approaching overhead so very soon we were rained off.
